Narappa Movie Review | Victory Venkatesh who has done several remakes in his career decided to step into the shoes of Dhanush. Narappa is the remake of Asuran and the film is directed by Sreekanth Addala. Priyamani, Abhirami played the leading ladies and Naren, Nassar, Rao Ramesh, Rajeev Kanakala, Karthik Ratnam, Rakhi played other supporting roles. Manisharma composed the music and background score for Narappa. Suresh Productions and V Creations bankrolled Narappa and the film is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Here is the complete review of the film:
Story:
Narappa is inspired by real-life incidents and is based on castism, the land mafia that took place in 80s in rural regions of the country. Narappa (Venkatesh) is an emotional and protective father and he has a tiff with Pandu Swamy (Naren). Narappa’s elder son Munikanna (Karthik Ratnam) beats Pandu Swamy and his elder son. Soon Pandu Swamy plans revenge and kills Munikanna after which things change completely. Narappa’s younger son Seenappa (Rakhi) gets irritated with the behavior of his father and he kills Pandu Swamy. The rest of Narappa is all about the other side of the protective father and how he saves his son. Watch the film to know about the complete story and an emotional flashback.
Positives:
Venkatesh’s old look and his performance
First Half
Background Score
Interval block
Flashback
Negatives:
Venky’s younger look
Boring second half
Tamil flavored story
Loud action
Performances:
Venkatesh understood the role and he did his part well. He excelled in the emotional episodes throughout. But the young look was not convincing. He did his best in the action episodes. Priyamani looks fit in the role of Narappa’s wife and she played Sundaramma in the film. Naren is a perfect match for the role of the lead antagonist. Karthik Ratnam and Rakhi who played Venkatesh’ sons played their parts well. Narappa also has fine actors like Rao Ramesh, Nassar and Rajeev Kanakala in other prominent roles. They played their parts with perfection.
Narappa is an emotional story that was set in 80s backdrop. Emotion and action are depths of the script and they are handled well. The screenplay is ok and the dialogues are good. The cinematography work is decent and Manisharma delivers a haunting background score. The songs are good and the editing is ok. The second half was not crisp. The production values are grand enough. Sreekanth Addala plays it safe with Narappa. He made no changes and the film is a xerox copy of the original.
Verdict:
Narappa is a scene-to-scene copy of Narappa. Venkatesh is perfect in the role. The second half should have been better.
Rating: 2.75/5
